ITS TIME TO GO FISHING DAD!
I took a ride last week with my faithful lab Coco up to YarmouthMarineBoatYard in Yarmouth Maine to go over work orders for spring commissioning on the Lady Diane. As you can see the snow banks have receded and the Lady Diane looks like she withstood the winter of 2008 without any problems. You probably noticed that I do not shrink wrap this boat which is one of the many reasons I love metal boats. I simply put on my winter curtains (to protect the helm area), cover the motor, and she is set to go. All winter long mother nature helps wash the deck and come spring all I need to do is put in the batteries, put on the summer curtains, install the electronics and we are ready to go. This year I am having a new bait well pump installed and the entire boat gone over (as usual) by the techs at Yarmouth marine to be sure we will be start of the season in A+ condition. The guys at Yarmouth Marine do a fantastic job and I have always received superior service from them. If you ever have any boat needs I recommend you call Sean at YarmouthMarineBoatYard...you will be glad you did.
I plan to bring the Lady Diane back to Massachusetts by the first of April, finish rigging her, splash her that week, and make a run to the grounds to see whats going on. I got a call this morning from a commercial rod and reel guy who said they are still hitting the cod hard in the Stellwagen area and he gave me some numbers to check out. To be honest...I cant wait for these next two weeks to go by!.
As of today I only have only one Saturday and a couple Sundays left open in April and May. Seems like a lot of people have been seeing what the price of cod fillet is in the store ($8.99 at my local market) and realize it wont be hard to cover the cost of a trip at those prices. Last year we averaged around 100-150 lbs of fillet per trip and a couple trips hit the 200lb mark! April 11th (which is the only Saturday available in April) will be the first charter of the season and could prove to be a slammer if these fish stay where they are now, and there is no reason to think they wont. I know people sometimes are reluctant to go on the first trip of a charter season but remember that if I don't find fish for you to take home...your charter is FREE that day.
Tight Lines,
Capt. George
