New Ground Fish Regulations Announced

15 Jan 2009

The new interim National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) regulations for party/charter/recreational boats came out yesterday and the news good.

This year beginning on May 1 2009 we will be allowed to keep 18"+ haddock...this size matches the commercial fishing limits.
The cod season for 2009 will begin on April 1 (same as last year) but the closure wil be from Nov 1 2009 until April 15 2010.  The loss of those 15 days in April 2010 will have little impact on my schedule so it looks like a good season ahead!

Many customers have been calling and asking about charters for 2009 and I have been reluctant to schedule until this ruling came out as I wanted you to know when or if (one of the options was a complete clousure in the GOM) we could start fishing for cod.  Since we now know the regulations I will be happy to take you reservations for the season beginning today.  Please call 978-590-2131 to reserve your dates for Stellwagen Bank ground fish trips beginning in April.

I hope everyone is staying warm during the current cold snap we are experiencing.  Friday's predicted high is 0 with a wind chill factor of -20.  Sure wouldnt need to bring much fish ice aboard this time of year!!!!
