How we did
28 May 2009
I arranged for a commercial vessel inspector from the Coast Guard, Bill Bradley, to come aboard the Lady Diane today and do a courtesy dockside inspection. This is the same inspection that is done by the CG when they board you at sea. By having this done at the dock the CG now has a record of the inspection results and sometimes will not proceed with the boarding thus saving a charter boat's customers valuable fishing time.
The Lady Diane passed with flying colors and it was noted that I carry safety equipment even beyond what is required of a charter vessel including self deploying, raft, epirb, dual VHF radios, and a satellite phone. Safety is our primary concern and I feel the extra money I have spent on these items are well worth the investment. Chief Bradley did a very thorough job and I really appreciated him taking the time to do this inspection.
While at the dock I noted the wind was blowing 15knts from the NE and had a cold bite to it ....I was glad that we weren't out on the bank today . The forecast for the weekend looks great and I am looking to 2 great charters on Saturday and Sunday. This weekend's fishermen are very experienced anglers so all I need is to put them on the fish and they will take care of the rest. I think I might bring an extra fillet knife in case I wear out the first with these crews!
