The Rest of the Story
11 Apr 2009
I am very pleased to announce that Full Strike Anglers has found a new home on the charter dock (J Dock) at the Cape Ann Marina in Gloucester, MA. I believe this facility to be one of the premier marinas in the area and will provide my customers with the first class service I strive to offer. To be honest I wasn't planning on moving to a slip this year but when this opporutnity came I decided I needed to take the chance. I believe I have spoken with everyone who has charterd the boat this season, and the response has been overwhelmingly postive.
For all my Maine friends, I know many of you have already booked trips and will be coming to Gloucester to fish the early spring cod bite on Stellwagen. Thank You!!! I still plan on running trips from the Saco River in Maine in July and August for those that want to fish on northern Jeffreys and Platts. From mid July through August last year Platts was on fire and I look forward to being there again when the fish turn on.
One of the benefits of the marina is that it also has its own resort where anglers and their families can stay and enjoy great accomondations within walking distance of the charter dock and many other attractions. Any of my customers who are fishing with me and stay at the resort, will receive a discount as well on the room rates. My "How to Find Us" page has been updated with directions to the marina and you can see more information about the resort by clicking CAPE ANN MARINA RESORT
Now for the fishing report...
The good news is that I brought the Lady Diane home yesterday to Massachusetts and started to rig her for the season. Unfortunately the bad news is Mother Nature has decided to let everyone know who is in charge (again) and small craft warnings (inshore) and gale warning (offshore) have been posted through Sunday in the area. This was suppose to be the "Admiral's Trip" today but I already received my orders to "stand down" (actually she expressed it in a much more empathic way which I cannot write on this page).
The other good news is that a very good friend of mine went to Stellwagen yesterday (4/10) and absolutely crushed the cod and haddock. All the fish were in shallow water and taking jigs as soon as they hit the bottom (my type of fishing). They limited out on cod in short order and spent the rest of the day bailing haddock...again all on jigs. It sounds like the Bank is coming alive and the fishing is only going to get better as the water warms.
Finally, I only have a couple Sundays left in May so if you want to get in on this action, please call soon. Once June 1st comes we move to other grounds as the commercial season opens on Stellwagen and the place becomes a golf course (covered with gill nets) which makes it impossible to set up decent drifts. I have to admit, catching ground fish in 100' of water gets you pretty spoiled.
Tight Lines,
Capt. George
