The Maine Charter Boat Captains Association , to which I belong, hosted a "Take A Vet Fishing Day" this year. Many charter boat operators donated the use of their services for a day of fishing to men and women who are serving their country in our armed services. It was my pleasure to welcome aboard Lt. Phillip Doll and his buddy Chad for a day of ground fishing on the Gulf of Maine. Lt. Doll had recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq and was anxious to get out on the water and do some fishing so we left the dock at 0530 and headed onto the Gulf of Maine.
When we arrived on the grounds the guys immediately started jigging nice market cod. Today a lot of short cod were mixed in with the keepers so we had to fish through the shorts and moved from spot to spot throughout the day. Lt. Doll handled the jig stick like a pro and soon had some nice fish to put in the box.

Throughout the day the guys worked hard at jigging these nice markets and when when arrived back at the dock around 1630 the coolers were filled with tasty fillets for their families to enjoy back home.
I really enjoyed my brief time with these guys and I know our country is in great hands with men like Lt. Doll who are serving to protect our country. I hope that I will be able to participate in this program again next year as it my way of saying thank you for the sacrifices our service men and women make. GO ARMY!!
