Game On
Shashimi for dinner
18 Jun 2008

Left the harbor at "O dark Thirty" and heading to the southern grounds with my good friend Adrian to see if we could bloody the decks with this year's first tuna. A stiff (unexpected) NW breeze met us as we headed out but it provided perfect conditions for our game plan

As we approached the grounds we found little signs of life so I turned the helm south east and decided to go until we found more promising areas.  With the full moon just occuring we knew the odds were against us but both of us have the "fever" pretty bad and chasing tuna is the only cure.

Around 0700 we started seeing birds and whales and after a couple near misses my line became tight with the seasons first first.   Screamin Drags provided sweet music as the battle engaged. Adrian took the helm as I fought the fish and in about 20 minutes Adrian sank the gaff in Lady Diane's first fish of the season. The tuna measured 56" and had a good size girth..estimated weight between 110 and 120lbs.

After dessing and icing the fish we decided to run back to the harbor , pull some of Adrians lobster traps and then called it a day.

So the fun begins and I hope many of you will be able to book a charter and come experience this exciting fishery.
