Just a short report for today.
I took a friend on a offshore scouting trip to an area I had not fished this year. It took a long ride and a good amount of searching but we found a great body of fish that were feeding on the large school of herring above them. Butterfly jigs were the weapon of choice for these fish. I am becoming a bigger fan of these for ground fishing every time I use them. I plan on carrying a couple outfits on the boat for future charters for those who would like to give it a try.
I had a interesting visitor come by the boat today. A 20 ft basking shark came right to the boat and dove under it. You should have seen the mark that guy made on the E120. I would have taken a picture except earlier in the day my camera went over board after it fell out of my shirt pocket while I was gaffing a cod fish....AAAGGGHHH!
The big news is that Charlie (tuna) is now in the area. Footballs to medium size fish have been confirmed and so I now go into stealth mode on these reports. I have noted quite a few other charter captains read these report and I am flattered by that. I am always willing to share intel and all it takes is a phone call or a friendly hello on the VHF. Unfortunately, some people are jealous of the new guy, feel threatened by him and don't have the ability to act as a professional. As a teacher I learned a long time ago not to argue with children and I am not about to start now...even though these children are much older. My clients, their enjoyment, safety and satisfaction are my main concern...the children can stay in the sand box and play, while we are on the grounds hauling fish.
Tight Lines,
Capt. George
