Recon a success

15 May 2008

Took a fellow charter boat captain on a scouting trip today to get ready for the weekends charters.

Our search of the inshore grounds proved two things.  The massive schools of breeding cod where not yet on the grounds but they are on the way.  We took two fish that confirmed my suspicions that this bite should open up sometime next week.

We headed out to Jeffreys and worked areas from south to north.  It was worth the trip because during the last two hours we hit the mother load of nice market cod in the 10-15 lb range along with haddock in the 5-6 lb class.  We put our limits in the boat and headed for shore around 1230 as I had a family committment that evening.  I hope to put my guests on these fish this weekend as they are driving a long ways to fish with me.  Now if this miserable weathernman will gives us a decent forecast we should be in for a couple great days of fishing.
