It has been a rough opening for cod season this year.  Strong NE winds with rain greeted anglers who headed out in search of cod on the first full weekend of the 2008 season.  Coupled with fast moving New Moon tides, fisherman had great difficulty trying to keep jigs or bait in the strike zone long enough to hook up.  While the action was good at times, unfortunately the coolers were light at the end of the day because the vast majority of cod taken where  undersize and needed to be released.

On a more positive note, there has been a decent haddock bite developing and many of the larger party boats have saved their day when their captains have been able to put customers onto a hungry school of "bugeyes".  Bait has been working well for the haddock (as excpected) but some of the larger bull haddock have been taken on jigs.

It looks like another iffy weekend weatherwise is in the making with NE winds expected to blow. along with rain on Saturday. We hope that after this system passes we can get into a stretch of nice weather and get after the fish with a vengence.

Tight lines,

Capt. George
